Why I Write

“For years, I measured my days by what I accomplished. Over time, I discovered that life’s greatest fulfillment comes from faithfully doing what God has called me to do.”

I never set out to become a writer.

I simply set out to keep a promise.

Years ago, during one of the most difficult seasons of my life, I made a promise to God. I promised that if He helped me through it, one day I would write about what He taught me along the way.

Life didn’t stop after that promise.

There were still lessons to learn, people to meet, blessings to appreciate, and experiences that would shape me in ways I couldn’t yet imagine. Looking back, I realize that promise stayed with me through every chapter that followed.

When I sat down to write, I discovered I was doing more than keeping a promise.

I was preserving the people, the lessons, and the moments that had helped make me who I am.

Over the years, my work with Hewlett-Packard and later as the owner of Manatee Pocket Yacht Sales introduced me to remarkable people and unforgettable experiences. Looking back, I realize those years were never just about careers. They were about relationships, faith, and discovering that God often works through ordinary people in extraordinary ways.

When life slowed enough for me to reflect, I found myself asking a different question.

Not, “What’s next?”

But, “What has life been teaching me all these years?”

That’s when writing took on a life of its own.

I don’t write because I think my story is extraordinary.

I write because I’ve discovered that ordinary lives are filled with extraordinary lessons if we’re willing to slow down long enough to see them.

Writing helps me preserve those memories. It helps me better understand my own journey. Most of all, it reminds me how grateful I am for the people God placed along my path.

I write for myself because writing helps me understand my own journey.

But I also write for others.

Not to tell anyone what to think…

But to encourage them to think.

To look back with gratitude.

To recognize God’s faithfulness, often seen most clearly in hindsight.

And to discover that some of life’s greatest lessons are found in its simplest moments.

If my stories encourage you to pause for a moment…

To reflect with gratitude…

Or simply to appreciate the remarkable gift of the life you’ve been given…

…then they’ve accomplished exactly what I hoped they would.

Thank you for spending a few moments with me.

I hope my stories encourage you.
